Well, finals are over for me now. Mawuahahahaha!
Let's see. I got Elantris read. And let me tell you, it was GREAT. And I don't say that just because I know the author. It really was a GREAT book. I'm not gonna lie and say it was the best book I've ever read. (Not including religious books that would be Fahrenheit 451.) But, honestly, it's been a long time since a book has reached out, grabbed my attention and forced me to read it like Elantris did. (It will soon be added to my favorite books list on my profile.) It's a fantasy novel. Not really the high fantasy of Tolkein, or even Jordan, but that really isn't a bad thing, it's breath of fresh air really. It's only got Humans and some intelligent balls of light, with magic being kinda funny: It's simultaneously everywhere yet used very little. And it's one of the few stories where I can say that the ending truely surprised me. It wasn't really one huge surprise, but there were quite a few smaller and middle-sized surprise twists. Each one isn't really enough to knock you off your feet, but they are enough to keep you off balance just long enough to be kept off balance by the next. I recommend this book in the strongest terms possible.
The Chronicles of Narnia. Oh... My... Gosh... This was a great movie. I wouldn't say that it was quite as good as I was expecting, but, (and I realize I'm contradicting myself here,) it was better than I thought it would be. It was VERY faithful to the books, and the main characters, even though they were teenagers and children, did a VERY good job. I was really surprised by the quality of the kid actors they got. I thought that Liam Neelson was a little monotone in the part of Aslan, but not so severely that it detracted from the movie. I've heard some complains about the White Witch, but I thought that she was portrayed quite well. I really liked the fact that she was such a butt-kicker with her swords. And speaking of fighting... The battles... WOW.
The CGI was great, and having the animal characters protrayed by animals (CGI animals, but animals nonetheless,) was a big step up from the old BBC version of "Huge, furry costumes with lots of make-up."
Perhaps the best part of the movie was how they stayed true to the Christian symbolism, especially that of the atonement of Christ, yet they didn't shove it in your face. I think they did a great job with that. It would have been too easy to have either suppressed it or to have overblown it, either of which would have offended a large group of people.
All-in-all, a great move, and I would be sorely dissapointed if it didn't at least recieve a nomination for movie of the year. It might not win it, but it at least deserves the nomination. If it doesn't get it, that will prove beyond a doubt the anti-religious bias of Hollywood.

Anyway... I'm not sure when I'll post again. I'll try to at least once a week, but between job-hunting and a week-long vacation with my sisters to visit another sister of mine in Las Vegas, I don't know how much time I'll have.
